How to find your best time to post on X (without guessing)

Divv Saxena · October 14, 2026 · 1 min read

Every few months a chart goes around claiming the best time to post on X is 9am on Tuesday. It might be true for the average of millions of accounts. It is almost certainly not true for yours.

Your audience has its own habits. The only data that matters is how your posts perform at different hours.

The simple method

  1. Take your posts from the last 30 days.
  2. For each one, note the hour you posted (in your time zone) and the engagement it got: likes, replies, reposts, quotes, bookmarks.
  3. Average engagement by hour. Ignore hours with only one post; one lucky post skews everything.
  4. The top two or three hours are your window. Post there for two weeks and check again.

That is it. The important part is step 3: enough posts per hour that the average means something. If you post twice a week, you need a couple of months before the numbers settle.

What usually comes out

Three patterns show up again and again:

  • Commute hours in your audience's time zone, not yours. If most of your followers are in the US and you are in India, your best hour may be your late evening.
  • One surprise slot. A quiet hour where there is less competition for attention and your posts get replied to more.
  • Weekends behave differently. Treat them as their own experiment.

Do it automatically

BuzzyX's analytics page does exactly this with your real posts from the X API: engagement by hour in your local time, with your top three hours highlighted, and it refuses to show a result until you have enough posts for it to mean anything. Try it with your X account.
